Claims Happen

CLAIMS HAPPEN… We’re sorry it happened to you.

At First State Insurance, we make it our priority to be alongside you throughout the claims process. If you have had the misfortune of suffering from a loss, we want you to know what to expect.

Take Pictures. It is natural to want to start fixing things right away when you have a loss or potential loss.  Take pictures or a video of the damages before you start repairs.  We understand that some emergency situations may require immediate attention (i.e. burst pipes, flooding, etc.).  In those situations, document the nature of the loss as quickly as you are able.

Submitting the Claim. Notify our agency when you have verified a loss has occurred so we can assist in the submission of your claim. Providing us with all details and descriptions helps us help you.

The Claims Process. The loss you reported will be sent to your insurance company for review and processing. A claims representative from the insurance company will be responsible for contacting you, reviewing the damages, and making the determination of how your policy will apply to the claim.  Ask the claims representative if you have questions on the timeframe for processing your claim, what will be covered or your out-of-pocket expenses.

The Time Frame. We understand that when you have a loss, resolution as quickly as possible is very important so that you can schedule repairs or begin to replace items.  Most claims are settled quickly, with a claims representative contacting you in the first 24-48 hours. However, in the event of a catastrophic claim scenario, this timeframe may be extended as there may be multiple claims in your neighborhood. If you have not been contacted by the insurance company within 72 hours from submitting your claim, please call our office.

Your Part. You will want to respond promptly to any communication you receive from the insurance company or our office. This will help speed the claims process. Keep copies of any documents that may be important to settling your claim, such as receipts or estimates from contractors and/or body shops, photographs of the damage, or notes of conversations. You will need to turn these documents into our agency or to the company claims representative. Also, ask questions throughout the claims process to make sure that everyone is on the same page and provide us feedback if we can do something to improve your claims experience with First State Insurance.

Our Part. One of the most important reasons to do business with First State Insurance is the assistance we provide when you’ve had a loss. If we don’t have an answer to your question, we will get the correct information and get back to you as quickly as possible.  We understand how devastating a critical loss can be, and we are here with compassionate help during trying times. Please feel free to call us at any point in the claim process. We’re here to help!
